Sudu Neluma Ko Song Meaning





Rathna Sri Wijesinghe is an award-winning Sri Lankan lyricist in Sri Lanka, so I am going to explain the one of his song based on the true story, this song is "Sudu Neluma Koo " on that decade Rathna Sri is a teacher who was teaching Sinhala language and suddenly he got a transfer for Monaragala district and he has to moved on the present location to Monaragala, when times goes he found one poor girl who was very clever for studying and her studying in grade 7, 

One day Rathna Sri sir has noticed that the stated girl was not at school and he got a news that she has died some reason, after that he applied half day and he went to funeral with on of his colleague, 

the funeral located on near the Okkampitiya Dematamalgoda temple (Wiharaya) and there is a lake near the temple as well, once he visited he saw that the house is too small even they unable facilitate to kept the dead body is side the house as well, and neighbors are helped them for a funeral and people visited the funeral is less than 12, and people has dressed to body the school uniform which is defaced.

and Rathna Sri Sir was approached to his father which is mid aged person and he is asking what as happened to her ? everyday after school she  is going for lake to pluck the lotus and she was selling it to the people whose  going for temple and she buying her stuffs with that money and extra money she is giving to family for daily expenses. 

the November month is a rainy month for that area and after 2 days there is a full moon Poya day as per the calendar therefore she is decide to increase the plucking of flowers at the rainy day because of the increase selling of flowers and at the night she was not back to home and villagers tried whole night to find her but they couldn't and following day her dead body had came to shore of lake and sad part of the story was there were two Lotus flowers (Nymphaea nelumbo) in the hand , after hearing this sorrowful story Mr. Rathna Sri Wijesinghe is decided to write the song based on this regrettable.
